Comments from Capitol Hill
"Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding cost of living adjustments for Social Security. I appreciate the opportunity to learn your views on this issue.... On October 15, 2009, President Barack Obama announced that due to last year's surging energy prices and this year's decline in overall consumer prices, there would be no CoLA increase for seniors. The President's announcement is troubling and sadly indicative of the overall state of the economy."
— U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia
"We have reviewed The Seniors Coalition's "Working for a Responsible America" survey responses and appreciate your interest in health care reform."
— U.S. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland
"America's seniors have earned their Social Security benefits over a lifetime of hard work, and they deserve to be free of fears -- real or perceived -- that their retirement income is at risk. I'm committed to seeing to it that people like my 88-year old mother do not become political pawns, and that America's immigration problems are no addresses on the backs of senior citizens. Organizations like The Seniors Coalition are helping to ensure that Congress keeps its priorities straight."
-- Former U.S. Rep. C.L. "Butch" Otter of Idaho (Now Governor)
"If Congress does not pass legislation to stop illegal aliens from receiving Social Security benefits, law-breaking aliens will raid the already deprived Social Security Trust Fund of billions of dollars. The Social Security Trust Fund cannot withstand this type of costly payout. Congress must act, and act now. This is why I introduced legislation that would forbid any Social Security credits for for illegal aliens or work in violation of the terms of a visa. But I cannot get my legislation passed without the help of The Seniors Coalition and its many supporters. Now it is time for you to do your part to help The Seniors Coalition in this important fight. Please make your voice heard."
-- U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of California
